Top Autumn Destinations for You and Your Caravan

The best scenic spots to explore this autumn

Just because the summer is drawing to a close, it doesn’t mean that your adventures have to stop - far from it! In fact, there are plenty of places in the UK that look even better and more beautiful in the autumn than they do during the summer months, and the following 5 destinations are some of the best…

Quantock Hills, Somerset

Just west of Bridgewater in Somerset lies a swathe of countryside known as the Quantock Hills - the UK’s very first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, no less! The oak woodlands that the area is home to provide the most beautiful colours when the weather starts to cool, and the Jurassic coast is nearby if we get one of those fabled Indian summers.

There is also plenty of heathland and open countryside to see, with walking routes crisscrossing this stunning area so that you can take it all in.

Gloucestershire

Refined and picture-postcard-cute as it is, Gloucestershire has some wild beauty to enjoy too. A trip here in the autumn will see your craving for autumn colours satisfied, as well as tick the boxes for independent shops, quiet country pubs, and more photo opportunities than you can shake a stick at.
We’d recommend visiting an arboretum at this time of year, and there’s none better than Westonbirt, near Tetbury, which is home to 2,500 different species of tree. That’s a lot of autumn leaves to look at!

Gwynedd

Located in the northwest part of Wales, the county of Gwynedd is put largely on the map by the fact that most of it is covered by Snowdonia National Park, making it jaw-dropping at any time of year.

In the Autumn, Bala Lake, the largest natural lake in Wales, is a particularly popular spot thanks to the trees that line its banks, bursting into all manner of fiery colours in the months of September, October and November.

Of course, no trip to Snowdonia would be complete without a trip up the highest mountain in Wales, Mount Snowdon, which, in the autumn, you may find to be quieter than it is during spring and summer.

The Highlands

The Highlands are of course completely breathtaking at any time of the year, but as Autumn arrives, its drama intensifies with the colour of the changing leaves. One particular destination that you must be sure to tick off on your autumn Highlands itinerary is the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which is still working today, and has been used in many films, the Harry Potter series perhaps most famously.

The New Forest

Where better to enjoy the beauty of trees in the autumn than a forest?! The New Forest is the ultimate tourers playground, thanks to attractions such as the National Motor Museum, at Beaulieu, as well as copious hiking and biking opportunities - all set against the backdrop of autumn colours when the year starts to wind down.
